Welcome to the 17th Newsletter!

It’s 2022! And this month marks two years since the pandemic came and forced many of us out of our work and away from our colleagues that we love so dearly. A great deal of us are still dealing with restrictions and limits put on our work and lives, so we must keep positive and hope that we are out of this soon.
If you took on a new role during the pandemic we would like to hear the stories of what you were replacing your regular crew-job with. Please share any photos/words with us by emailing us at [email protected]
The stories will be shared on March 8th at the Rose Shure Centre in London, where we are hosting an event in association with Shure UK on International Women’s Day!Here’s a recap of WILM activities since you last heard from us:

We are as always super grateful to our members for sharing their news on our Facebook Group

Cora writes: “Believe it or not, we are currently on tour through Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Being a seated event in half capacity venues and with daily rapid testing, weekly PCRs and FFP2 masks all day long… Here’s our hello to everyone out there! Sooner or later we’ll all hit the road again. Looking forward to meeting more women on tour!”

Last December WILM turned 4! Due to the on-going travel restrictions across much of Europe, we celebrated online again with a Virtual Christmas Party and Awards Ceremony where we revealed the winners of the WILMAwards 2021!
We took the occasion to highlight some of the talented and dedicated few women out there in the venues and on the road, and of course we had the Bullsh*t Bingo, where two of our members scooped up some excellent prizes kindly donated by
Shure UK and Flightcases DK.

Congrats to Tour Manager, Kristin Rastedt from Germany, on winning 1st prize in the Bullsh** Bingo!

After the Bingo and greeting our members from around Europe, we revealed the winners of the 2021 awards. This year we had a whopping 33 categories, all the way from Production Coordinator to Pyro Technician. A big congratulations to all of the winners!
(Psst. If you didn’t get the chance to watch the stream in December, we are happy to let you know that you can still watch it
here).

As promised we are indeed hosting a real ceremony to celebrate at the Rose Shure Centre on 9th March in London, UK, so please bring yourselves and a guest and celebrate with us!

We will be welcoming everyone at 18.00, then at 19.00 a tasty Lebanese buffet will be served. Great vinyl’s will be spinning all night, and in between we will entertain you with the traditional Bullsh** Bingo and Crew Quiz before we go on to pay a tribute to the WILMA’s 2021 🙌
There will be plenty of time to catch up & meet new people from the industry!
Thank you so much to Shure for once again sponsoring the WILMAwards, and hosting the ceremony at their beautiful new location in central London 🙏
A big thank you as well to Flightcases.dk for the amazing WILMA trophies that we will be handing out to our winners on the night!

January – Stockholm Meet Up

1.newsl

WILM members (and baby Jerry) met up for a beautiful walk and cosy meal in Stockholm.

Lyliss writes: “
This was a wonderful moment, thank you for welcoming me so warmly and for all your great advice. For the last 2 years, WILM really helped me change my life for the better and turn my dreams into reality. It was so fantastic to finally meet in person, thank you! Looking forward to the next meet-up!”

January – WILM Ski Trip to Romme, Sweden

Mid-January we started a new yearly tradition: The WILM skiing trip! Smoothly organised by WILM member and Sound Engineer, Jo Gustavsson, who would start us off every morning with a yoga session. We would then go skiing – experienced and not-so-experienced alike, as much as we could on the 33 slopes in the beautiful surroundings of Romme Alpin Resort. No injuries at all! Which we believe was due to the vegan diet, yoga before and after skiing, as well as the good company.
The evenings were nicely rounded off by a trip to the big sauna and then the bar.
We also had an unexpected but nice surprise in form of an invitation from Stage Manager, Tourmanager, Event Planner and so much more, Mia Mästerbo to visit the beautiful studio, Valley Sound Studio – as well as her office in Borlänge, where Mia gave us some insights on the rich music life in Dalarna.
Thank you so much Mia 🙏 We will be back – and we will definitely be back skiing again next year!

January – Eurosonic Netherlands

Once again we were fortunate enough to participate in the Eurosonic program with a panel discussion on the topic of ‘Diversity In The Backstage’.
WILM was invited alongside other inspiring people dedicated to diversity within the music industry, as well as HR experts from outside, to see what we could learn from other areas of business. Again it was mentioned that female role models and an early introduction to the industry has a very positive effect on increasing diversity within the workforce. However, as initiatives and communities working for more diversity, it is important that we make ourselves more visible to the rest of the industry as well as the audience.
WILM also made an appearance at the

‘How To Build A Family Friendly Music Industry’ where many good suggestions came up, such as 24-7 daycare, better facilities for touring parents with small children at festivals and venues etc. It was also discussed that higher authorities like governments should secure a foundation that would allow touring artists/crews to bring their children with them on tour.

Thank you to Eurosonic for having us, and to everyone who participated. We really had a great time with lots of insightful discussions.

WILM supports this campaign from Backstage Pass in the Netherlands they are laughing for Women’s International Day, March 8th – please help share
image6
Representation and visibility are an important step towards diversity and inclusion. Today we invite artists to introduce the women in their (stage)crew on their socials for International Women’s day on March 8. After all, ‘You can’t be what you can’t see’!
· It can be a photo or a video, you can be in it yourself or only feature your crew, and please use hashtags #spotlightonher and #IWD22 and #BreaktheBias. Please tag all collab partners (social links at bottom of email)
· You can include her job title and add a quote, for example to explain what she does in her words, or an anecdote from your experience working together.
· You can use the campaign frame (download here) or post with your own design (or without any design / artwork).
· All crew are welcome but the focus of this campaign is on workers in technical / stage / touring roles, as that is where the imbalance is the most significant.
· Please make sure women have given consent to have their image shared and photographers are credited.
Looking to diversify your crew? Check website www.diversityontour.com for tips and resources, or check out crew databases such as: WILM Crewlist, EQL directory by Soundgirls, SITM Database, Black Tour Directory and Never Famous.
This campaign is an initiative by Backstage Pass, in collaboration with Women in Live Music, Code DI, Soundgirls, She is the Music, Diversify the Stage, TPG & Music Forward.
