WILM Newsletter #29
# 29

Welcome to our 29th Newsletter!

Spring is on its way, and the landscape will soon transform into a blooming and bountiful sight – and so will WILM!

Over the past five months, WILM has been undergoing a new infrastructure development that will enable the organisation to expand and operate more effectively – something we have long hoped to see.

However, a restructuring of WILM, like the one we are currently implementing in collaboration with some of our amazing partners, does not come without cost. We all need to contribute, which is why we found it necessary to increase the membership fee.

In return, you will gain access to an expanded range of WILM activities across Europe over the coming years – and, most importantly, you will be part of a positive and much needed impact of our beloved industry. WILM cannot do the work alone, we need you on this as well.

At the moment, we are finalising the last details. As soon as we are ready, we will share more details with all of you about the new organisational structure!
*** NB: In some countries you can deduct the membership fee if you have a VATS number!

What we’ve been up to since our last newsletter:

The 7th WILMAwards, December – London, UK

One of 32 new WILMA’s: Best P.A of the year Flip Dewar – ‘P!NK’’

The 7th WILMAwards had it all:

We had beer from Signature Beer, Gin from Wicstun Distillery, WILMA trophies from Boxxtoff, tour catering from Tim and Krakin Catering, a brilliant livestreaming team from CT and much more. Once again DJ Laurina from Solotech spun some fantastic tunes to keep the festive vibe going. We played our legendary Bullsh*t Bingo and Crew Quiz with some amazing prices. And as something new we introduced the WILMA raffles next to our traditional WILMAuction with items from Dirty Rigger, Shure and a wonderful book from Gabriella Kielich on the touring word

All in all, it was the best evening we could have imagined, together with our 32 WILMAs and 150 guests, for our 7th ceremony at NTU London

And here they are! The Winners of the WILMAwards 2024!
The Outstanding Award went to Tom Campbell, Lighting Designer & Production Manager – for his unstintingly work introducing young women to the many opportunities backstage
You can read more about Tom and one of his other side projects here @STNDBYWORLD
🙏 A huge Thank You to our sponsors of the WILMA. We couldn’t have done it without you! 🌺

Skiing Trip, January – Romme, Sweden

Happy Skiers Malle & Chloe, enjoying the skiing at the top of the mountain 🏔️

Happy skiers after a long day on the hills
We had a wonderful time on the slopes in Sweden earlier this year at our annual WILM Ski trip ⛷️

Amazing weather, yoga, sauna, great (vegan) food and a great company!
You can already now mark the dates for the next WILM skiing trip in 2026: Jan 11th – 15th. We will share a cabin or two depending on how many we are. Never skied before?! No worries – there is both a ski school as well as possibilities for cross-country skiing, and just relaxing at the resort.

Open-Day at the French Conservatory in Dance & Music with NEXO

Thank you so much to NEXO for inviting us along to their panel at the Open day-event at the CNSMDP in Paris. We had an extremely exciting – and important talk about being a woman in the music industry in front of 200+ guests. Our CEO was accompanied by NEXO’s Engineering Support Manager Magali Deschamps and Head of the technical department for the Philharmonie de Paris, Emmanuelle Corbeau. The panel was conducted by CNSMDP student Célestine Paone.

When in Paris, why not visit the HQ of NEXO?!

While in Paris, we enjoyed a visit to NEXO’s HQ where we got a factory tour that included a trip to the demo field (yes, NEXO doesn’t have a showroom. They have a field!!) and we also shared some thoughts during our visit on why so many manufacturers in our industry are lacking diversity, especially in R&D and the sales department!

We hope to soon catch up with NEXO again!

It was great to see a couple of hundred people in the audience at the talk about being a women in the music industry

Despite of a cold day in January, the coffee was warm – and so were the reception at NEXO’s HQ right outside Paris

Visit to the HQ of ROBE in the Czech Republic

At the end of January, we had the pleasure of visiting ROBE in the beautiful mountains of the Czech Republic. As per tradition, a visit to ROBE includes a stay at an incredible hotel built entirely from wood. This stunning hotel complete with a lovely spa area 🧜🏼‍♀️ – happens to be owned by the founder and CEO of ROBE!

It was truly impressive to get a behind-the-scenes look at ROBE and experience firsthand what a family-oriented company it is, something WILM deeply values. We were also blown away by ROBE’s showroom. But we can’t reveal too much here. You’ll have to see it for yourself! 😎

We hope to return to the Czech mountains soon with a group of our WILMers!
A huge thank you for the invitation!

For years, we have observed the European metal scene and noticed that diversity thrives backstage. So why don’t we see the same kind of positive progress in other genres of the live music industry?

Come and meet some of the bada** women behind some of the biggest metal shows out there and hear their take on why there is better representation of women behind the scenes in the metal world. The conference is part of the Inferno Metal Festival.

***WILM would like to express our deepest condolences on the passing of Jan-Martin Jensen, a true pioneer in the Norwegian music scene and the founder of Inferno Music Festival Norway. Jan-Martin passed away in early February this year and will be remembered for his kindness, passion, and dedication to live music 💔
